Back for my first news report in a while, I'm reporting on something that I myself am actually quite excited about. News of a new two-dimensional and high-definition Sonic game has spread out, and has aroused many fans interests, including some around The Sonic Factory Forums. So far, this new revelation will be called "Project Needlemouse", a slight teaser to the rest of us. Apparently this game will be built from "ground-up", which hopefully means it's not going to be a dry old rehash of the old games, but still a nice 2D adventure.
"Speed returns in an all new 2D adventure build from the ground up," reads the teaser trailer, with a flashy show of the year 2010.
The video link is above. Personally, I'm going to have to wonder whether this will be a success or a flop, but either way I truly can't wait to see the results.

Today and throughout next week, the download code for Sonic 3 on the Xbox Live Arcade will be posted up on Sonic's Facebook page. Sega's decided to be pretty generous with us, but they're not just giving it away to anybody. First, you have to friend Sonic on Facebook. Next, the code for the game will be released. But the snag is, the first person to enter the code gets the game. Fitting theme for a Sonic game, requires speed. But not to worry if you're not the fastest the first day, because, as said, it's going throughout all next week.

Basically just a pretty trailer to enjoy, showing some of the events that will be in the game such as Snowboarding, skiing, Speed skating, Ice hockey, Ski-jump and Skeleton-ing....what Yoshi was doing.
There's also the appearence of Metal Sonic which is nice so I look forward to that.

I'm not too fond on the size of the vehicles.. I mean they are huge, and the powerups don't look all that powerful with the exception of Super Sonic. But I guess it comes to down to actually playing it and not having to watch whats going on through youtube quality mixed with video camara recording. But the graphics look nice.. from what can be made out.

So Sega said they were annoucing a game this Friday, which is also the day of this update, and they said it would be an unsurprising announcement. Yet I am both surprised and not. The next batch of the Sonic Unleashed Adventure packs have been released and you get 2 for the price of 1, both Apotos and Shamar are available for download at the cheap price of 250 Microsoft points. As of now it's only for Xbox 360 but PS3 owners should'nt have to wait too long. So if you love Sonic Unleashed as much as I do then I'm sure you won't be missing out of the these 2 packs that should hopefully tide you over to the next batch.
Also the original Genesis/Sega Mega Drive Sonic the Hedgehog makes it's way onto the iPhone. Although It's hasn't recieved the best welcome with apparrent choppy issues and not presise enough controls. But I guess the buyers will have to to see for themselves. And let's hope Sega can fix such issues.

Sonic and Mario at the Winter Olympics has been set to be put on display at E3 2009 this year. E3 2009 will be set early June (the 2-4th, I believe) so don't miss out if you're in the area! This information was released on Sega's Twitter. Of course, Sonic and Mario at the Winter Olympics won't be the only SEGA game on display, they'll have quite a few more, so I'd personally love to go see it. Of course, on my end it would be a cross-country trip, so maybe not this time, but be sure that if you're in the L.A. area to make your way down there and catch a glimpse of the latest announced Sonic game.

Some more screenshots for Sonic and Mario at the Winter Olympic games have been released at IGN, which can be found at the link below. A short preview/review of the game has also been released at IGN. For my opinion, it certainly looks graphically sound, and apparently even the balance board is available for use. Looks pretty good to me from what I'm seeing, though I suppose that the pictures don't really show that much that we didn't know already. Still, it's certainly enough to wet one's appetite for now.

Some news regarding the art contest during the development of SatBK, if you can remember that. A winning piece of art from Italy that was accepted into the game has been found to have been traced off of a piece of fan art from Mega777, made back in 2003. This obviously goes against the contest rules. The artist himself has admitted that he has done so and apologized to the original artist.
Sega of Europe has stated that the art which was plagiarized will be disqualified from the contest and the copy of SatBK that the plagiarizer was going to receive will be given to Mega777 instead.
If you already have bought a game, they have said NOT to expect a patch, recall, or any other kind of remake for it. However, though they have not said anything about it, it is possible they may revise the game so it does give credit to the true artist and give the real piece of art.

This is basically what I've waited to post up regaurding Sonic the Black Knight's review. The Metacritic average score. If you don't know Metacritic takes published review scores and puts it into an average to try and give you an unbiased look at the game. Yes that does include the controversial IGN review, but thier opinion counts and it always seems that IGN get's Sonic fans angry for whatever reasons. But as you can see it got 55/100 so far. check the Metacritic.com to see which sites the review score average came from, and if the score has changed.

The first showing some of the training level, of which we have seen most of I assume and is showing nothing new, same old same old. The second is more interesting as it shows Knuckles, Shadow and Blaze in single player mode (I can't remember thier Knight names by memory). And will please fans of any of those characters............... trailers.

Also, the zip files in the Game Soundtracks will be going up one by one. Due to the size of these files, it takes about a half hour a piece to upload them so that is the only place that you should see a problem. So that should be the only place that the links shouldn't work right till the end of the day.

Well, the back of the Sonic and the Black Knight box art has been revealed. Click on the two links below for the pictures. The first is a general overview of the whole box, the second being a closer look towards the bottom so that you can read the text.
It reveals a few flashy pictures, along with the new description of Sonic's knightly quest. Not much more information on the game itself than we already knew, o' course, but it's some nice eye candy to hold us off until release. This is, by the way, the UK background, so the rating in the US, being ESRB, is of course not 12+.

I was stumbling around youtube and came across this. 2minutes of footage from Sonic and the Black Knight showing off more of the CGI cutscenes, more storybook cutscenes, multiplayer, clips of all character confrontations and more gameplay footage. So yeah this is a must see if you are looking forward to this game, however it may include 1 or 2 spoilers, minor ones though. It's also aShame about the quality of the vid.

The anticipated Sonic Universe, made by Archie Comics and set to take its rightful place back as the proclaimed main canon among the fans, the comic that picks up from Sonic X, has its first issue scheduled for release on the 24-25th of February at some of the specialty comic shops you have around locally, and slightly later for places like newsstands. The first issue is supposed to start from episode 40 of Sonic X, is called "Living Weapons", and should feature both Shadow the Hedgehog and Metal Sonic. Apparently, some of the newer characters to the series, such as Princess Blaze the Cat and even Marine the Raccoon from Sonic Rush Adventure should be appearing in this first issue, and most likely more issues to come. I'm not going to give away spoilers, but this will definitely be an opening that should grab your attention and keep you held tight to the story.

Sega announced Virtua Tennis 2009 a few weeks ago, the problem? Well it was announced only for PC, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. That made some Wii owners not very happy, but its ok now! Sega just announced that they will be bringing their Virtua Tennis franchise for the first time on Wii.
“The Virtua Tennis series is perfect for the Wii platform,” said Sean Ratcliffe, Vice President of Marketing, SEGA of America, Inc., “SEGA is excited to be able to bring this uniquely interactive experience to Wii. The multiplayer Court Games in particular will be a feature that family and friends can enjoy together.”
Not only are Wii owners in for an exciting port, but a port with all the meat and potatoes. The game will feature all the playable tennis stars that are found in the other versions, over 40 courts to smash you opponents in single player and best of all an online mode! The game is expected for a May 2009 release date.

I thought I'd give a small update on the status of Media Center and a little update I have done. The Media Center is coming along nicely but we are still having a few bugs to work out, the plan to open the center in about 2 weeks is on schedule. Another tidbit, everyone here has heard of Sonic Communications, I'm sure. It was the original name of the website years ago before it merged with The Sonic Factory. Well, I have done a complete background of it going back over 7 years of data. Yes, that's how long ago it was online for.
I'm very surpised this site, even with a new name, is still online 7 years later and stronger then ever. I may not have been here with you all if it wasn't for True taking it over after I left. However, now that I am back, I have updated the History up to the point of when True changed Sonic Communications to The Sonic Factory. So I hope you all enjoy it.

Sega of America's official website for the upcoming Nintendo Wii title Sonic and the Black Knight has finally hit the internet, you can reach it through the link below:
You can navigate the site by moving Caliburn over characters to access certain menus, you can also destroy the enviroment to collect rings. If you manage to collect all 86 let me know, I could never find the last one and I want to know the reward.
Also check out the interesting papercraft page through the link at the bottom right of the page. You can print out Sonic's sword or a armored helmet from one of the other characters, including the confimation of Silver the Hedgehog as one one of the playable characters in multiplayer mode.

It's now official, like it wasn't already. Confirmed by both Sega and Nintendo. Coming in late 2009 it's Mario and Sonic at the Winter Olympic Games.
The official press release talks about new characters, a bit deeper into the game like Alpine Skiing and Speed Skating for the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS. Also using the Balance Board was said in the official release statement so we are maybe looking at some fun snowboarding action along the way too.

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games has sold like hotcakes, it’s amazing to see this game still in any top ten, especially when you take into account that it was released in November 2007.
According to ChartTrack, Mario & Sonic climbed a spot from last week’s impressive finish to claim the 10th overall position in this week’s charts. Afterall the title was declared the United Kingdom’s fifth best-selling game last year.

The anime will be handled by A-1 Pictures (who also did the Persona anime) and directed by Yasutaka Yamamoto. The TV show has only been announced for release in Japan as far as we know.
OutRun Online Arcade achievements revealed True 2:37 AM Wednesday, February 04 2009 Tags: Sega
Sega Europe has just posted the achievements list for the upcoming XBLA and PSN* (*PSN only for Europe) title, OutRun Online Arcade. The download title will feature 12 achievements, scoring you 200 points (like all XBLA titles).
But no definite release date has been given as of yet. Hopefully we will get to see it within the next month - because this is a title that I think most Sega fans want to get their hands on.

So Sonic and The Black Knight, it's hard what to make of this game, the concept of Sonic wielding a sword is certainly an unusual 1 but if you can get over that you may find a decent game, well from the footage from the trailer it isn't looking too bad. The combat is fast paced which is a good sign as it, hopefully , fits with Sonic. Also the graphics look well done but like always we still can't do much judging until you get the game in your hands.
Following on from the trailer we have the character models, that show Sonic, Knuckles, Shadow and Blaze all in thier medi-evil get up. I can't say I'm fond of how they all look, bar Sonic, but at the quality of these models do look top notch, so check them out even if you predict you won't like the Knight outfits.
